Blog
Welcome to the blog section! As you can see, it's kinda janky, because idk JavaScript lol.
(18/04/2025) - Quick update regarding site plans!
Spring has come, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, my sinuses are burning, and the outside world is wonderful again. So of course, this means that school is starting up again next week! This also means that updates are going to be a bit sparse for a while, unfortunately. But, the important things I wanted to finish over the course of this break, I actually managed to do! The general framework of this site is in the place I want it to be (for the time being). Some things like the homepage are kinda joinked up and need to be debugged, but besides that I feel content leaving any big layout changes in the backburner for now.
Every time I work on the general layout of this website I get a billion new ideas regarding the structure and aesthetic fluff, but I want to spend the next month focusing on actually filling this place with some content! It's been a bit bare-bones so far, not gonna lie. So, I'm going to work on digitizing some of my stuff to put on my pages, preferably without a whole lot of effort being spent on designing a whole new fancy webspace for it.
- Content I have planned:
- pixel art (graphics, buttons etc... not solely wibsite related!)
- 2d artwork - digital and traditional
- more writings - probably adding some kinda microblog stuff as well. though i'm gonna keep that as simple as possible rn, lol
After that, well, I guess I'm going to work on the ideas I still feel like doing. These are the ones at the front of my mind!
- Site-wide stuff:
- homepage overhaul - something more snappy and catchy, expect a lot of flexbox :']
- collections page -> for online and offline stuff!
- some pages dedicated to my interests. shrines maybe? i would love to just yap about though lol
This is a whole lotta work though, so we'll see when I feel like working on all that. Honestly, after this last period, I would love to spend some more time away from screens. Would be great news for my eyeballs too, lmao.
That's all for now! Hope you all have a lovely easter, and see you around!
10-4-2025 - Complaining about Layouts
I don't really know how people do the whole "layout" thing. To me, it's the hardest and most frustrating thing in all of coding. I know it's because I'm learning a whole new skill in snippets, and I gotta be patient, and code depends on the coder etc. But every single time I go to Google for help, it seems like other people have discovered a whole new way to do things! And I know that their code is probably really good and useful and a significantly more convenient way to do things. But, at first glance their code always seems absolutely impenetrable to my baby brain. It seems like, for every new thing I learn on W3Schools, there are about 7+ exceptions and 25+ ways to do it better. This isn't a bad thing per se, more of a skill issue on my side. But man, it sure is annoying, lol.
For example, I coded this whole site without containers. Because I had no idea what containers were. And I still have no clue what containers are. I knew what a grid was, but just the basics, and not really how to work around it. I decided to look up a template to figure out how to do a sidebar, and lo and behold: containers! So now I'm like, OH, that's how they do all the fancy zig-zag stuff. But, there are multiple types of containers, and stuff like ids and classes, and the grid you still gotta work with, yadda yadda. So that's a whole bunch of new information! And it turns out all of these things have a bunch of specific rules that don't fully mesh with my existing code! Aaarrgh!!!
This isn't a Real problem of course, it's basic stuff I had to learn eventually. If I don't wanna regret my spaghetti coding in the future, I gotta learn from my mistakes. But perfectionist that I am, I always feel like I gotta be ahead of the curve. Well, I don't! This is a baby shitpost site!! For fun!!! Mistakes are normal and it's an unfortunate part of any hobby when you have to go back and do a bunch of extra work. But that's just mandatory stuff you gotta do for a better end result.
Honestly, I think the real lesson to be learned is: don't skip the boring parts in the tutorial, even if you're convinced you kinda get how it works, because you don't lol.
10-04-2025 - First post!
Okay, so. After a few weeks of extensive research (a few google searches with "reddit" put at the end), I have come to the conclusion that "coding" a blog on Neocities the way I want isn't really possible in a convenient manner, except in a way that requires me to learn a whole bunch of new technical thinga-magic-ajizz. Scary things such as JavaScript and Eleventy and suchlike. So, excruciating manual updating it is for now! Hurray!
It's been a little over a month since I've started working on this website. And I'm quite happy to say that I never expected it to be this fun! It's really wonderful how many little interesting things can be done with just a little bit of code. And how many things can go wrong with just a little bit of code. But that just makes it more exciting in a way! (I wonder how many of the things I'll say here I'll regret in the future, lol.) So far it's been surprisingly alright, but I still have a lot to learn. I'm very happy there are so many resources and tutorials available for free, and most of all I've been very grateful for all my more experienced friends and fellows who have been gracefully allowing me to bombard them with inane questions lol. Thanks again!
You could possibly inquire from the current layout that I've been figuring out the CSS grid system, and it's going, fine. I haven't really worked out how to work around the rigidity, so I'll probably have to look into working with flexbox. Not looking forward to changing up all that code, lol. But oh well, if it looks good in the end, that's what matters.
Right now, I'm not really sure what to do with the layout of the whole site. I've been lurking in the Neocities discovery tab for a while and man, people come up with the most creative and unique designs! I don't have a concrete plan for the whole of this website, but I know one thing for sure: for now, keep it simple. lmao. As much as I love the artsy and Y2K-inspired sites people have going on there, just the thought of coding All That is giving me a headache hahaha. And in my unsollicited opinion, it's a bit hard to navigate too! I would like this site to be mostly function over form for the time being.
Convenient and logical web design is a science of it's own it seems, and I haven't cracked the code just yet.
From a stylistic standpoint: I'll definitely change the colour scheme to something less beige, but I would love to keep the pink. I was thinking of maybe changing up the colour scheme depending on the section of the site, but that seems like a whoooole lotta work, so that remains firmly in the backburner for now. I've been replacing a bunch of hyperlinks/graphics with assests I made myself! A bit of work, but hopefully, this site will feel a bit like more of it's own thing. I have a whole to do list of neat and necessary things I would like to implement in the future that can be found in the Update Log!
Oof. There are a lot of things I still want to say, but this blog post is already long enough as is. I've got a bit of free time coming up, so expect some site updates in the near future! Because even though for all my efforts to spend more time off the internet, a girl's still allowed to have some fun with her screentime ;)
Bye, and have a good one!
